Progressive-Left Racism on Display

Mike L.

So, let me get this straight. If I were to publish a cartoon of Muhammed, such as the one above, it becomes my fault if some Muslims in Egypt or Libya go completely nuts and start killing people?

Throughout the progressive-left blogosphere they are blaming filmmaker Sam Bacile, and for some incomprehensible reason "conservatives," for the irrational violence resulting in the murder of a US ambassador and three other diplomats in Benghazi, Libya.

JayinPhiladelphia linked to the following Daily Kos comment as an example:

Right-wing agitation designed to inflame violence. (74+ / 0-)

... so it can be blamed on Obama.

Rightwingers wagging the dog.

74 uprates.

I have been maintaining for some time now that the foremost racist political movement in the west today is unquestionably the progressive-left. But like all hard-core racists they do not accept their form of racism as racism.

It is, in fact, as Jay pointed out, "humanitarian racism." As Gerstenfeld writes:

The humanitarian racist’s conclusion differs, however, from that of the ugly racist. He or she considers that as the non-white or weak cannot be held responsible for their acts, one should look away as often as possible even if they commit major crimes.

The progressive-left as a group tends to view people of color, and particularly Arab-Muslims, as so essentially inferior that they must never be considered responsible for their own behavior. Thus in this latest episode of shear irrational violence we have people like the commenter above claiming that it's the fault of "conservatives" although it is entirely unclear what the conservative political movement in the United States had to do with the attack.

The truth of the matter, of course, is that the people responsible for the murders are the people who committed the murders. To try to shift the blame to Mr. Bacile, or to "conservatives," is an excellent example of how progressive-left racism functions. It's actually a very imperial stance that completely disrespects the subaltern "other" and very much smacks of "white man's burden," Lloyd.

White Man's Burden:

Progressive-left racism is, in part, the result of a semi-digested post-colonial theory that divides the world into white western aggressors versus indigenous people of color. Because white westerners are always held to be the victimizers, people of color are always held to be the innocent victims of the white European west. Thus no matter what non-white people do they can never be held responsible for their own behavior and suitable scapegoats are quickly found.

Often, of course, the scapegoats are Jews or in the case of Israel, the Jewish collective. For this reason, as we see throughout progressive-left venues, no matter what the Palestinians do, no matter what heinous crimes a Palestinian may commit, it's always and forever Israel's fault.

In the mean time, Sam Bacile must now go into hiding in order to prevent his own murder. Does anyone remember filmmaker Theo van Gogh?

He, too, was slaughtered and for the same kind of reason.

.
.
.

By the way, Obama says that he "unequivocally" opposes the murder of the US ambassador and the other diplomats. Well, that's good to know.

.
.
.

Here is a Jerusalem Post comment that serves as a good example:

Levy

Bacile released a hate movie. he is directly responsible for the death of America's ambassador. He must be tried.

Levy blames the murder of the ambassador not on those who perpetrated the crime, but on a filmmaker half a world away.

On Daily Kos we get this:

Gee what a surprise nutjob Israeli and nutjob (4+ / 0-)

evangelicals causing problems.

Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear. ~William E. Gladstone, 1866

So Americans are murdered by Libyans and who is at fault?

An Israeli and an American evangelical. Typical.

  2. There is a kernel of truth in the sentiments of extremists and activists that they use to fan the flames for advantage, and this is true for both sides in a controversy.

    Here, the movie maker seems to have made a film that bluntly repudiates Islam and Mohammed. Even if provoked, it is no excuse for violence. That the filmmaker must hide for his life puts the matter into perspective concerning the issues and rights involved.

    I disagree to an extent "that the foremost racist political movement in the west today is unquestionably the progressive-left." I have seen plenty of disgusting behavior from partisans of both sides. To hear some of the talk about liberals and Obama would make one shudder.

    Beyond the need to demonize opponents, I do agree, however, that the larger issue of a post-colonial mind set held by way too many on the left, that springs humanitarian racism, is something that eats away at our system and increases the danger from forces seeking our destruction. Much of this is due to a lack of information, attributable to the movement to take any discussion outside the boundaries of discourse, perpetrated by those that wish to shield themselves from scrutiny. Indeed, they seek to stifle the rights and security of others as they violate the same with impunity.

    1. I don't know, School.

      Do you think that I am overstating my case?

      Perhaps, but I have to say that humanitarian racism is, today, the foremost type of racism present in the west. The old crude type is pretty well out of fashion, but this newer, more nuanced form of racism is definitely in fashion and mainly found on the progressive-left.

    2. I do not think you overstate, because the phenomenon is quite real, but I think there is plenty of hate spewed from both directions, and one side or the other predominates depending on the issue.

      The main fault with humanitarian racists, besides the hate, is the hypocritical approach to conduct that is similar in character, all to further an ideological agenda.

    Whenever in doubt about any of this kind of stuff just ask yourself the above or something like it and it all becomes clear. That simple. That complex.

    We use to laugh when Flip Wilson intoned, "The Devil made me do it." Now, even the Prez of the USA is willing to label a filmmaker or some poor schnook tasked with deposing of Korans the Devil, just to pacify enraged Muslims. Fuck that shit!

    2. And more...

      "The self-proclaimed director of "Innocence of Muslims" initially claimed a Jewish and Israeli background. But others involved in the film said his statements were contrived as evidence mounted that the film's key player was a southern Californian Coptic Christian with a checkered past.

      Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, told The Associated Press in an interview outside Los Angeles Wednesday that he managed logistics for the company that produced "Innocence of Muslims," which mocked Muslims and the prophet Muhammad."

      ~~~~~
      "Nakoula denied he had posed as Sam Bacile. Federal court papers filed in a 2010 criminal prosecution against him said Nakoula had used numerous aliases in the past. Among the fake names, the documents said, were Nicola Bacily and Erwin Salameh.
      During a conversation outside his home, Nakoula offered his driver's license to show his identity but kept his thumb over his middle name, Basseley. Records checks by the AP subsequently found that middle name as well as other connections to the Bacile persona."
    3. Of course it would have been nice if AP had checked all this out before reporting he was an Israeli Jew. Isn't that kinda their job, to confirm things like this? Especially considering the circumstances, and all? And it would also have been nice, if this is true, that the guy didn't claim to be what he did, either. Not. Fucking. Helpful.
    4. And still, even as all this comes out, those fine folks at Daily Kos know it's all a plot by Jews. And Israel
      How's that for some truly whacked-out conspiracy theory, eh?
      Elsewhere on that site, we now have a brand new, top-recommended diary from noted antisemite Lefty Coaster, which already contains a few "all Jews are Israeli agents" and some ZOG-giness, and which is certainly rife for all other kinds of bigotry as the day wears on.
      I don't know why I even went back there to look at that shitpile over the past couple days. I guess mainly just to confirm that the place is still a sewer of hate. It was a good few months not even clicking on that site, I plan to go back into that mode again very soon...
    Now, tell me that all of this isn't anti-Jewish racism. And I'll recount the equivalent lie that all of the self-professed "Pacifists" who excused and defended Hitler and the Nazi regime of Germany were not anti-Jewish racists, and I'll recount the similar lie that the industrialist and financier and political governing class of the U.S. who supported and financed the Nazi regime of Germany in the 1930's were not anti-Jewish racists, and I'll recount the similar lie that what Hitler, while expressing his belief that "The Jews" were evil malevolent beings who were causing all of the disharmony between peoples in the world, expressed in his expressing that he was an altruistic humanitarian who was seeking world peace and harmony between peoples was true, and I'll recount the similar lie that what Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, while expressing his belief that "The Jews"/"The Zionists" are evil malevolent beings and are the cause of all disharmony between peoples in the the world, has expressed in his repeatedly expressing that he and the regime in Iran are altruistic humanitarians who are seeking world peace and harmony between peoples is true.
  9. Not even a British documentary by distinguished professor of history examining the origins of Mohammed, who Arabs long ago decided could never be mentioned except approvingly, was considered to be too taboo for public consumption, and censored through coercive tactics.
    Yet these fundamentalists have no compulsion when the life or right of non-believers are violated, and unhesitant to engage in incitement to hatred that is far worse than they decry against themselves. This includes incitement to genocide, an international crime that states have a duty to prevent and to punish.
    But what about evangelical Christians? Yes, they may have silly, even stupid notions about spiritual existence and morality to many observers, but they do not routinely kill, maim and subjugate in the pursuit of faith. That is a crucial distinction to remember before they are demonized.
    For those who rely on Islamophobia to stifle debate, do they believe that Muslim hate speech should be disseminated to a wider public? If it is prohibited to offend or even scrutinized Islam, how can we learn about history?
